Is It Just Me?

Since this is my first real season of "serious" running, I am slightly puzzled about winter training. I have been in weather as cold as 32 degrees and gone as far as three or four miles, but not much more. My goal this next spring is to train for either a full marathon or a triathlon and I don't want to lose momentum this winter.

I absolutely hate running on a treadmill. Is it just me? I can't stand to run more than two or three miles at best indoors. Frankly, I just get bored. So, here lies my dilemma. I can either explore miles of the beautiful outdoors with risk of snow, ice, and frostbite...or....get in a couple of miles here and there of unadulterated boredom when we attend our local YMCA.

I suppose in reality, I'll just have to take each day as it comes and hope for a mild winter!

I started to comment on this...I got distracted...(imagine that), so I can't remember if I commented or not! HA! Anyway, I wanted to say that I feel the same way about treadmills. YET, I want one! We can't run here in the winter. At least not on our road (the first mile of my run) because of a layer of ice/snow that is there from December to April ~ at least. So, my option is snowshoeing...which I love and is great exercise, but by spring I am itching to run. I would love a GOOD treadmill. Now that I have my MP3 and can listen to music or a good Piper sermon...or my dad's sermon :) I wouldn't mind having one...maybe someday.

I feel the same way about treadmills, in fact I just wrote a post the other day that is almost exactly like this. I don't want to lose everything I worked so hard for, but the treadmill is so boring. It gets dark here early and is getting really cold already.

Sounds like you have a great plan for spring. My first marathon was in the spring. I trained all winter (we started in January) outside w/a friend. It was tough, but it helped to have someone w/me. This was before kids too, so I could run almost anytime.
