Songs for Saplings

Last year, our church had the opportunity to host Dana Dirksen of Songs for Saplings for a family concert. Dana and her husband started a music ministry years ago that give children (and adults too) a solid Biblical foundation of the truths of God's word through catechism memory. We love these songs and enjoy each and every CD. There are currently four CD's available for purchase and the fifth will be coming out this year. I encourage you to stop by their website today!

Grandma & The Boyz

My mom (grandma) loves singing and playing the piano with the boys! This is from my cell phone video- so it's not super clear, but you get the gist! My youngest was having a blast and really gets into it! It may start out a little loud- so prepare your volume! (Also, don't forget to pause the sonific while you listen!) Enjoy!

Check This Out!

My cousins sent the boys this fabulous CD for Christmas! "The Way My Story Goes" is by Artist Jamie Soles of Canada (homeschooling dad) and his family. There are 24 songs on the album and they are all incredible, detailed variations of Bible stories and scripture verses. Not only is the father talented, but the children as well! It is so great to hear them all singing along and doing it so joyfully! You will be blessed by this CD. Although it is geared toward children- I find myself popping it in when they are in bed because I like it so much!

If you read Jamie's bio, he shares the following about “The Way My Story Goes”.

"It is full of Old Testament story songs, all with a view to showing forth Christ in the Old Testament stories. It begins with Noah, and sweeps through the OT till near the end, where a version of Psalm 80 (“Give Ear”, a longing for the Messiah to come) provides the transition to the New Testament, where there are some songs of glory in Christ and a forward look to the resurrection.

A statement made by C.S. Lewis about children’s literature has shaped my understanding of how to build a kids song. It was something along these lines, that if a book cannot be enjoyed by a fifty year old, it won’t make good and lasting children’s literature. By the same token, if the song is unbearable for an adult to listen to, it won’t be a good kids song. I have been pleased to hear reports of fathers taking this new CD out to the barn where they can listen to it by themselves!"

Are You Telling Them?

(*Please Pause Sonific Songspot Prior to Playing Videos)

"Then Jesus said to them, 'So wherever you go in the world, tell everyone the Good News'."

Mark 16:15

Sometimes what I want to write I feel can be better expressed by sharing with you through music. I think that the Nickleback video ("Saving Me") is intriguing, but I do not wish to promote this particular band as 'Christian' in any way, shape or form. I do, however, think that they are putting forth a topic that is on the minds of many who do not know the Lord- "death". We are all going to die some day...when will it be? Are you ready? Are they ready? Are we telling them? Be looking for the analogy in the video in reference to evangelism...

I have always loved this song "I Wish We'd All Been Ready". First sung by Larry Norman- now by DC Talk, it always gets me thinking. I pray that we would take advantage of every opportunity to witness before our Savior returns. Remember, as you share the gospel with those around you, their 'response' is not your responsibility. We are only to be obedient to the commission given to us as believers. Share in love, but always in truth.

I Want to Be One of Them

Have you heard this song yet? I heard it "before" it became a popular play on the radio and just found out who sings it: Sara Groves. I absolutely love the words! Pause sonific songspot before playing youtube video. (I don't know the people in the video, but it was the only one that had the song attached!) Enjoy!

Lord I have a heavy burden of all I've seen and know
It's more than I can handle
But your word is burning like a fire shut up in my bones
and I cannot let it go

And when I'm weary and overwrought
with so many battles left unfought

I think of Paul and Silas in the prison yard
I hear their song of freedom rising to the stars
And when the Saints go marching in
I want to be one of them

Lord it's all that I can't carry and cannot leave behind
it often overwhelms me
but when I think of all who've gone before and lived the faithful life
their courage compells me
And when I'm weary and overwrought
with so many battles left unfought

I think of Paul and Silas in the prison yard
I hear their song of freedom rising to the stars

I see the shepherd Moses in the Pharohs court
I hear his call for freedom for the people of the Lord

And when the Saints go marching in
I want to be one of them
And when the Saints go marching in
I want to be one of them

I see the long quiet walk along the Underground Railroad
I see the slave awakening to the value of her soul

I see the young missionary and the angry spear
I see his family returning with no trace of fear

I see the long hard shadows of Calcutta nights
I see the sisters standing by the dying man's side

I see the young girl huddled on the brothel floor
I see the man with a passion come and kicking down the door

I see the man of sorrows and his long troubled road
I see the world on his shoulders and my easy load

And when the Saints go marching in
I want to be one of them
and when the Saints go marching in
I want to be one of them
I want to be one of them
I want to be one of them
I want to be one of them
